Lost/Damaged Books Procedures
If your child loses his/her library book, please follow these steps:
Please DO NOT purchase a replacement book yourself. Replacement costs do not always match the original cost of the lost/damaged book because of book formats (library bound vs. trade vs. hardback vs. paperback copies).

Lost/Damaged Books Procedures
If your child loses his/her library book, please follow these steps:
- Verify that the book is lost. Check around the house, in the car, and the classroom for the missing book.
- If the book cannot be found, have your child come to the Library Learning Commons to speak to Mrs. Speir, or you may send a note or email to the Library Learning Commons. We will mark the book lost in our system.
- A lost book notice will be sent home with your child with the cost to replace the book.
- Please make payment with a check made out to Murdock Elementary or cash in the exact amount. Have your child bring the payment to the Library Learning Commons along with their notice.
- We will print a receipt for your child and clear the fine from his/her account.
- Have your child bring the damaged book to the Library Learning Commons. He/she will be asked to explain the circumstances so that we may discuss how to avoid book accidents in the future.
- We will remove the book from our system and issue a damaged book notice with the cost to replace the book.
- Please make payment in the form of a check made out to Murdock Elementary or cash in the exact amount. Have your child bring payment and the notice to the Library Learning Commons.
- We will print a receipt and remove the fine from your child’s account.
